| "Having met through an international leadership program in 2007,
Aukje and Jon volunteered until the project was 'hibernated' due to
funding difficulties. They saw an opportunity to use the skills they
had developed, the contacts they had made, and set out in creating
beetroute's inaugural project: The SLOW Journey. |

| Aukje and Jon's relationship continued to grow stronger. When they
headed to Africa in 2008, they had spent little more than two months
of face-to-face time with each other. It was an enormous risk to take,
and by no means an easy road as they navigated their way through East
and North Eastern Africa on bicycles. Thus began the adventure of
their lives. This is, in brief, the story of how beetroute was established... |
