‘On demand’ adventure

Always wanted to hitchhike through Turkey? Cycle the Nubian Desert in Sudan? Explore Tanzania from a local’s perspective? Or, maybe you prefer something a little less wild and you would like to explore Kenya’s north, visit the historical sites in Ethiopia, or wander through the Middle East?

Jon and Aukje have safely travelled extensively through Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan and the Middle East. Off the beaten track, they can provide you with the opportunity to travel in a unique way of your choice. Previous to The SLOW Journey, they have also had extensive firsthand experience in Thailand, India, China, Japan, Canada, the USA, Australia, Ireland, the Netherlands, and New Zealand.

Whether you would like to cycle, use public transport, or choose the comforts of a rental car, they can offer you a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

When you hire Jon and Aukje, you can decide on the length of travel, your budget and the amount of organizing and logistics you would like them to do. Then, let these two good-natured, international travellers guide you on your customized journey.

One thing is certain: each day of the journey will be different. You may find yourself one evening in the desert, savouring a home-cooked meal on a campfire and the next evening enjoying the hospitality of the local people. You make the decisions, but you will have Aukje and/or Jon as your guide(s) to make this adventure secure, comfortable, and memorable.

Rien van Gerven from the Netherlands spent two weeks with Aukje and Jon, cycling through Jordan, and had the time of his life:

Rien: We prepared the bicycles in Aqaba and headed north from there. After a long day of cycling on the Dead Sea Highway, we camped in the desert. Wonderful to sit under a starlit sky at night in front of a self-built campfire. You feel like a nomad… For two weeks, I had this enormous sense of freedom. The route was more or less set, but we could just change our plans and drink tea with the Bedouins or rest for a day in a village with an amzing view over the Rift Valley. Cycling uphill was sometimes hard, but reaching the top gives an incredible sense of achievement. And when I really didn’t want to cycle another hill at one point during our journey, we got a lift from a pick-up. The Jordanians are truly hospitable people. Every day was an adventure: from floating in the Dead Sea, to camping in the middle of nowhere. Everything was possible, and Jon and Aukje adapted effortlessly to my needs. Thank you for a great experience!
