EDUTAINMENT

‘Who wants to be a beetionaire’ is an experimental game show spoof based on the popular TV series Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Hosting the show is Robert Worst, an enthusiastic character who sometimes is a little slow to understand. Each episode, he telephones The SLOW Journey team in a new country. Aukje presents simple geographical and historical facts from the country. The students watch the episode in class and use their listening comprehension skills to answer multiple-choice questions. Over 600 students in the Netherlands have successfully enjoyed this product.

Teacher feedback

Our students enjoy following beetroute a lot! They are getting a different perspective on ‘third world countries’, for example, they are so surprised when they discover certain areas in northern africa are so lush and green! Also, their listening comprehension skills benefit greatly from watching the videos in English. - Karin van den Heuvel, Geography Teacher , Varendonck College, Asten, the Netherlands -

Student feedback

‘Super cool this route, wish I could do the same!’ (hyves)
‘ Watched beetionaire in class today, it was so much fun!’ (email)

Beetproductions produced this series on the ground (during The SLOW Journey) with limited time and resources. For the benefit of (language) schools and educational TV, film or other media, we can re-edit this series into a format that fits the prospective buyer.
